Committee Spotlight: Council of Centers

The SAVIR Council of Centers represents the Center members in SAVIR. The council is charged with growing and advancing the field of injury and violence research, expanding funding for the field, developing collaborations among centers, and assisting centers and academic institutions in training the next generation of injury and violence prevention professionals.

What are your goals for the coming year?

To review funding sources, to engage with the student and early career professionals committee to further engage trainees in the science of injury prevention

Tell me a fun fact about your group.

We represent centers from all over the US!

If your next Council meeting was a poker tournament, which Injury Center would be eliminated first and why?

Haha – not sure!  Maybe University of Michigan?

What initiatives are you most proud of? How can members partake in these efforts?

If members are not sure if their center is a member of the council of centers, they can reach out to their injury center directors to find out. If not, we are always welcoming new centers to the council. Hopefully, updates from the council of centers meetings are going out to individual center members.

How can SAVIR members get involved with the Council of Centers? How often/when does your committee meet?

We meet every other month. At times centers rotate which faculty are present in the meeting for the center. Members could contact their individual centers to see who represents the center in the meeting and offer to attend at times.
